META NODP tag

Does this tag ignore the OPD description only?

I've worked hard to get one of my clients entry from a PR4 to a PR6 page in the Open Directory Project but there is now a description which although is unarguably factual is not very attractive. :)

If you utilise the META NODP tag so that Google uses the meta description tag are there any other implications? I wondered if Google would also discount the entry in ODP all together...

Thx for reading,

Wendy

Using this tag <meta name="robots" content="NOODP"> will allow the actual page title AND description (or snippet) to be displayed. It will not effect SERPs in any way, shape or form (that I am aware of).

I know of many cases where the noodp tag was added -- no problems in any of them.

Thanks for your replies peeps!

Does anyone have any views on the average amount of time it takes for an OPD change to reflect in Google SERPs?..

My client's site gets spidered once a week on average... and I'm assuming OPD will be frequently spidered... although I do recognise that the OPD is huge!

I've changed about fifteen sites so far to the NOODP tag; the longest it took was three weeks to have the actual snippet and title show up. YMMV.

Wendy,

The last I knew Google took a rdf of the ODP, this was done on a regular basis. I haven't checked the rdf files in a long while so don't know how frequently they are made availible.

I just took a look and 09/14 is the latest and the archive is updated once a week.

Please excuse my ignorance... what does 'rdf' mean? :)

Wendy,

Resource Definition Framework is what RDF stands for.

Information on the ODP rdf dump and a link to the W3 definition is availible at rdf.dmoz.org .

Or you can put rdf in a Google search box and hit the I'm feeling lucky button.
