The Google search result looke like this

Example
bla bla bla bla bla
www.example.com - 61k - 18.Sept 2006 - In cache - similar
English - www2.example.com
Italiano - it.example.com
Francais - fr.example.com
Espanol - es.example.com

I looked in the source of this site, but found out nothing special.

I myself use since years

<link rel=Alternate hreflang=en HREF=http://english.example.com>

but never got listings like this

That's a number one listing, right? It's an example of what Google calls SiteLinks, and what we called "Extended Listings" here before we had the official name. Site Liks are created by algorithm, so in this case, the important site structure that the Google algorithm is picking up is by language.

Here are some previous discussions about Site Links - something that Google has apparently been rolling out SiteLinks in a more widespread way in recent weeks.
