ranked for widgets but never for widget.

can someone please give some imput on why i can get ranked on the prural..

can someone give some help as to why i have a great ranking for widgets, but no ranking for widget?

i gained a very brief appearance (page 30 ish) for the singular but this then disapeared, whilst i can maintain a page 1 rank for the plural.

i thought stemming would result in at least a rank for the singular.

i have been adding widget content for a few months now, and some inbounds also use widget.

any ideas

It may be nothing to do with your site - one of my sites rates for widgeter, but I cannot get a foot in the door on widgetting - simply because that is the more competitive term.

Search for both terms and look for the notional number of times each term appears on the web ...

yes that may be part of the problem, widget has about 10 times the amount of index pages that widgets - i assumed the stemming would have helped.
