Backlink information is changing...hang on

Well in looking at my stats this morning it looks like there has been a new backlink update started at google. I am not sure how often these are but I was wondering from the pros. How close is this usually to an Algo update? I have seen pretty stable referrals from Google over the last little while and we are all expecting some changes it seems sometime over the next few weeks.

Not sure how your stats report reflects a backlink update but I haven't seen such an update. Seems we had one about a month or so ago.
As far as an algo update, don't believe that is going to happen anytime soon.

Don't know about your question, but my backlinks were definitly updated overnight – and it's about time too, it had been at least six months since I'd seen any change.

Texasville, stats is a generic term for statistics, so it certainly isn't specific for "Server Stats," if that's what you're suggesting.

My backlinks were updated overnight as well. Rather worryingly, my own website is now listed as backlinking to itself. I have no idea what this could possibly mean, especially as I didn't think the site: search listed reciprocal links, and a link to myself would surely be reciprocal...

I have seen the same thing happen in the last few days. Google has definately updated their archived information for my site's backlinks. Finally!

the link: command for many of my sites return different numbers as well... There was a back link update last night...

Few sites have nothing for link: (which is somewhat uneasy, but it's not unusual)

My backlinks are showing as updated as well, and I too am having pages from my own site counted in the links? Is there any concern for this, or should I just be grateful that google is counting those which helps my relevancy and hopefully better position in the SERPS?

backlinks from own sites can show if inner pages have some good links coming into them and above pr threshold

LOL!... my backlinks were are 100+ couple of months back. Then like thousands of other sites, they were cut. Mine went to 14! Now it's 15! However, my position in the serps have improved dramatically even with the loss of those backlinks!

Hi,
I hope this isn't right, a couple of the sites i have, have been reduced to zero BL's. They didin't have a huge amount of Links before just over couple of hundred. but now on almost all Dc's Zero.

Not seeing the free fall in Serp's that i expect with this, i guess that will happen this weekend :(

Anyone else getting the same problem.

Just a little bit more information on these sites:

1.Established websites been online for 6 years now.
2.They do have a large number of links pages and have done for an age.
3.I haven’t added a link to these sites in almost a year. October last year was the last reciprocal link exchange I did with these sites.
4.Pages are all indexed correctly and are without the supplemental tags.
5.Pr for what its worth is still the same (we’ll see on the next update when I guess tat will change)
6.Googlebot visits as it always has done no great changes in that.
7.We regularly check our linking partners’ pages to see if our links are still on their site. Admittedly the majority of these pages are other links pages. But these pages are still ranked and are indexed, PR Etc…

Any Ideas is this just a glitch on my sites or are there others out there in the same boat.

Ok. I see a BL change for my site on some of the DCs you mentioned.

But I'm surprised!

The "updated" BL number resembels that of which was noticed on 64.233.187.--- during last month (August 2006).

Surpsrised because at that time GoogleGuy wrote about it [webmasterworld.com] :

It's Brett's decision to call something an update, but I agree this one isn't anything to write home about. Like Pluto, I think this would be a shrinking update; the SERPs aren't really changing. :)

I talked to one of the engineers who would know, and it turns out that it's an engineer who has grabbed the 64.233.187.whatever datacenter for himself to tinker around with making info: queries slightly more accurate. I don't expect the visible/external info: or backlink data to spread to other data centers (or if it did, not for a long time).

So have fun poking around over there if you really enjoy monitoring IP addresses, but just bear in mind that it's an engineer tinkering by himself, not part of a larger trend or an upcoming update.

This is the same exact BL count I saw on that engineer's DC several weeks ago. In fact, the related: command is now fixed too.

Not that I would care much on TPR and link:, but FYI, my few months old site shows zilch backlinks on these DCs. TPR is white.

The DC from the other thread _did_ show backlinks.
