Redirection - based on http referrer?

Send google.ie refers to our Irish site?

Anyone have a view on the following,

We have two sites - one Irish & one UK. Both serve different content on the same subject line. So if your looking for <the product we handle> - both sites offer these. Frustrating as it is - even on google.ie the UK site often comes up instead of the Irish site.

We would like to redirect these users to the Irish site as this makes sense.

What effect could this have on SERPS & does anyone know of other sites using this technique?

<Sorry, no specifics.

Why redirect? Why not just add real clickable links between the sites so that the user can choose which one they want. Not all people in Ireland are there permanently. Maybe they actually do want to see the UK site.
