OK - My site is one year old tomorrow. I've heard of an age filter - will I see any marked improvement in either traffic or serps - it's a page rank 5 with a lot of internal pr 5.

Nothing is going to dramatically change just because your site is a year old.

Getting good postions in Google/growing traffic is for the most part a process, not an event.

I agree with abbeyvet -- the name "age filter" is poorly chosen because the effect we see is not related to a specific span of time or age. Google never talked about an age filter or aging filter. That was a name invented by some webmasters to theoretically describe problems getting newer domains and pages to show up well in search results.

Does this "theorised age filter" apply to

1, when domain was first registered

2, when domain was first indexed by google

3, age of inwards links recognised by google

reason I ask is I have a site thats been online 2 years, but I did nothing to it cos I didn't have a clue till May this year,

its now creeping forward on google, page 14 for main keyword, p1 thru 5 for up to 20 combination I never even thought off,

all its links are maximum 2 months old

I think age is relative to your competitors and how old their sites are. Unless you can dimension warp then you will remain younger than your competitors mwahahaha

In my first year, I was nowhere for my chosen keyword (approx 150 million in my category). after crossing the first year, things began to happen. Google started sending visitors for secondary keywords. Then at about 15 months, I started showing at around #200 for my main keyword. 3 months later, (currently) I am floating between #8 and #30 depending on datacenter.

But I must say it would depend on a LOT of other factors which I can't even begin to comprehend at my level right now...

Hi Andrew

how many uniques is 1 day on page one on google, yahoo, msn worth to you per Search engine, for your main keyword

Say, you're 1 on google for 1 day, would you expect

10, 200, 400, 1000,,,,,,,

unique visitors via that key word from google serps

Still a bit too early to say for sure what the top 5 placing will give me in terms of uniques, because I've been floating between #8 and #30+.

However, according to my stats, my uniques have increased about 20 per day (shucks... I expected more). I've heard that the top 5 will give a greatly higher count compared to anything below that.

Started with a relatively easy keyword (50 million), then as traffic came in started to target the main key phrase (150 million). I am now going through the same process and will begin targetting a more competitive keyword (approx 800 million). should take a couple of months before I see any results.

Hi Andrew

Thanks for that, but , your uniques increased by 20 a day from what? for that keyword,

My oldest site, ranking page one or two for about 5 keyword combinations I never optimised for, relatively uncompetitive terms, average 1.5 million results, gets about 20 uniques per day from these 10 terms,

I also gets page 8,9,10 for other keywords but not much comes from those terms,

I am just trying to work out the mechanics of getting 5,000 uniques a day, which seems to be a fairly common traffic level for the more successful traffic generating sites i read about here

So does one have to target like,,,,, 100 keyword rankings yielding 50 uniques per day each,,

I am kinda literally minded, an am keen on nailing down a system for success, If it can be done

Cheers
