How long to get site removed By Google after 301 redirect?

I registered a new domain three months ago and implemented a 301 redirect one month ago to direct old domain to new domain. But after one month past, it is still my old site indexed by Google and the new site is not indexed by Google at all (although I submitted a sitemap three months ago and it is regularly visited by Google crawler).

Anyone has idea that how long Google will remove the old side from its index and the new site could be indexed after implementing 301 redirect? How to get the new site indexed by Google faster excepting for getting more backlinks? Thanks in advance.

It can take time, but rarely matters, as 99% of visitors will go seemlessly from the site in the serps to the new one, without noticing.

But, you can help by checking the 301 is correct (check a few deep pages, as well as the code); be sure the old pages have actually gone, remove / update as many links to old site as you can.

Broadly, this is Google's way of saying "Are you sure you meant to do that", as changing domains is very, very, rarely a move worth making; risks and damage almost invariably outnumber any perceived gains.

If any of the old site URLs are being shown as supplemental results then Google will continue to show them for many months; maybe even for a whole year. That is not a problem though, because your redirect will take the visitor to the correct page on the new site.

In fact, at the next supplemental update they will create new supplemental results for the now redirected URLs and then keep them visible for up to a year. You cannot stop that happening. It just "is": [webmasterworld.com...]
