Should I remove my 301 if I set my domain preference in Sitemaps?

i have just my preffered domain in site maps as i have had the www v`s non www error for a while does that now mean that i should remove my 301 redirect from non www to www?

No, you should leave the 301 in place. Matt Cutts was recently extremely clear in emphasing that.

thank you tedster, do you know why when you select the prefered domain why it then comes up manage domain.co.uk and manage www.domain.co.uk?

It is letting you know that it knows that you do own both.

should i just leave it alone then? or add sitemap?

They are unrelated. Having the 301 is something you should always do.
