After about 16 months, my site has finally come into the top 20 for my chosen keywords (approx 143 million in my category).

Questions :

When should I start thinking about targetting more competitive key words?

Is the following approach correct?

- start including the new targetted KWs in my meta, title and description (while maintaining my current ones)

- start using my new targetted KWs in anchor text

Thanks in advance ;)

Start working on converting the traffic you are getting.

Work harder to get more one ways from articles you publish, press releases and links to move you to page one. Page two percentages for most keywords are a small fraction of the searches for 1-5 on page one.

Get more links to inner pages that related heavily to the root (hopefully all of them do) This has helped me bolster higher ranks for the homepage.

You can only target so many phrases in a page title.

Meta tags are pretty much useless for ranking.

Continue getting more inbound links to your pages that rank, varying the anchor text, which will also help these pages rank on additional terms.

Add new pages, with the best content you can create to attract inbound links.
