IP based redirects

One of my client have a global website with a section dedicated to each of the countries where company has functional operations. I want that as soon as any visitor lands on the website, he/she is redirected to the main page of the country section wherefrom he/she is visiting the website baseb on IP address of the visitor.

1. Will such kind of redirects affect the SEO compliance of the website? 2. How would Google treat these redirects?
3. Should it be 301 or 302 redirect?
4. Whether redirect be done through server side scripting like PHP/ASP or Javascript or is it possible using .htaccess?
