On what basis google uploads images on image.google

I have the impressions that Google Imagebot is still being worked on. It behaves very erratically.

How it choses the images to cache is a mystery - on my sites it never looks at more than a handful per 'scan'. Scans happen periodically, but not too often - much less often than "regular" Googlebot visits.

P.S. Never heard of the "manual upload" option.
