Here is my dilemma.
I have a bunch of new sites. Some days ago I read a pack of WebmasterWorld topics concerning advantages and disadvantages of dashes and underlines in page file name. The situation is: I have underlines as separators in all my pages with my keywords (like blue_widgets.html).
I made a little test because there are a lot of different opinions concerning dashes and underlines. My site typical page file name is like blue_widgets.html. I made two searches in Google. First I looked for blue-widgets. I had my page among a lot of other competitors in serp. Next time I searched for blue_widgets. Only my page was found. So the advantage of dashes seems to be obvious for me.
The decision as I think is to create copies of all my pages with file names “blue-widgets”; “orange-widgets” and make redirect 301 to them from pages “blue_widgets”, “orange_widgets” etc.
What do you think about this idea? Is it worth it? Or may be you have any other suggestions concerning the problem. Thank you for your help.

Keep in mind that when you do that search, it is almost like searching with " "...so you actually got what you were looking for. That really doesn't produce an advantage as ..how many people search using _ or -? Almost none. It's the on page topic that counts. How you name the url doesn't really matter and I think you are just flirting with problems.

I just want to know does the advantage of renaming page file name from underline to dash bring more benefit comparing with what I lose when make redirect 301 from underline to dash.

it does not matter that much. better get one more link instead of spending time on redirects.

The serps advantage of changing will be less than the disadvantages - not to mention your time and trouble.

Whenever you add a NEW page, use blue-widgets; and whenever you reorganize for good reason, change to blue-widgets.

But it's really not useful to change just for that one minute issue.
