Hi all,

I have set up a travel website for nearly a year and get about 700 urls indexed on Google and 9 backlinks there and PR = 3. But it is not on the TOP 1000 for the keyword that I intend to optimize.

To my great surprise, only 6 days after being created, one of my Blog on my.opera.com with pagerank = 0, 9 indexed page, and 0 backlink has been on Top 50 for the same keyword on Google. I dont know why and how it goes that far.

Any of you have experienced that?

Thanks

Any of you have experienced that?

On and off Google seem to operate a kind of "new domain" boost mechanism. Brand new domains get shoved up in the SERPS for a short period of time (at most a week or two).

I believe the theory behind it is to allow new sites to gain some natural organic inbound links. It's almost like a human-review - give it a chance to be found and see if people link to it.

Then it'll drop back for a while.

Anyway, that's my theory on why it happens, to answer your question, yes it's been experienced by many webmasters here and yes it's quite normal.

Many thanks to TJ for that..

Do you think that the blog will get top 10 when its pagerank is over 4?
And is it so great if my blog will be on top 10 and then I use that blog to promote for my travel website...

will it be effective? Thanks

Forget "public" pagerank - uninstall the toolbar if you're getting too stuck on it.

Your blog will be top 10 when, in Googles' eyes, it's an authority site for its keyword(s).

The more competitive the niche you're in, the better your site will need to be, and the better your marketing will need to be.

then I use that blog to promote

Why not - it's a marketing opportunity - you can send the traffic anywhere you like with some careful linking. Just don't expect it to remain in the top 10 for very long. Assume it's a boost.

Wua, so good your reply.. however, I do hope that it will not be a boost..my business now has not got any profit, I do believe that this blog may bring me somehow a hope.. Thanks

But why do you think that PR is not important?

It probably is a temporary boost - assume it is.

But why do you think that PR is not important?

PR is still a factor in googles algo, but what is shown on the toolbar is not the "real" PR. It's usually 3 months out of date and pretty useless. It's also buggy - you'll get strange results from time to time.

It can be safely ignored. It is not an SEO tool.
