Hello everyone,

I was wondering why does google show PR to everyone which tells everything or say most of the things about its status in google.

They wanted to be best so they made an algo which is never disclosed but everyone knows about the PR & the link(page) importance.

All this is fine but Google does not like to be Gamed by spammers & SEOs.

All they love or say desire to have natural results which are direct result of natural linking. Which theoritically will give the best results.

But I think when they decided to show PR of pages to everyone they made it easier to game Google & opened doors to spammers & un-natural linking.

I know everyone including me loves to see PR of pages to easily know where to get a link from or what's our status? & I see problem for Google starts from here only. Specially when people go out & hunt for links with high PR irrespective of quality & naturalness.

Hunting for links if done for only getting high PR links means un-naturally creating links as we ask/beg for them or buy them or etc etc. All in all it will be un-natural.

Imagine what if there is no such indicator of PAGE'S IMPORTANCE then we would not consider which page is better in the eye of google but we will always consider which one has the better content when giving outbound links. For e.g a page having 0 PR but excellent content may not get as many links as a page having PR6 but with ok content. As we tend to give link out to high PRs as it will benefit us in return.

OR say will never request links or buy links from unrelevant or totally different pages even if that page's importance is 10/10 in the eye of google as we will not be knowing its real importance in terms PR & link importance.

I would love to hear what people think of this as there are so many Great people out here which can have excellent answers/thoughts about this.

It would be cool if people from Google here can comment regarding this (I know u would read this) & may be in next 2 next 2 next 2 next update u would stop showing PRs ;o).

I do not mean to remove PR but why show them by any means. If Google really want to fight against spam & un-natural linking (links only gained for gaming google).

For the record I am working as an SEO too & my work is to game google & play with PR ;-)

guessme.

The green bar PR has been beat to death in these forums. The green bar means nothing. I would not depend on it, I do not decide on what sites to link to because of it, I have sites that rank well despite it. I think that webmasters who refuse links because of it are crazy. What I would concentrate on is quality content, quality links, quality period. Every thing else will just fall into place.

No-one knows about GPR - except Google.

the green bar gives an estimation of GPR several months ago.

End of story.

Yes you ppl are absolutely right.... but there are so many & I mean 90% of the webmasters still wants links from high PR sites or say pages.

As showing PR to people tells directly about its standing if not full but enough to be attract people to get link from it. We will never know what is the GPR but that little green bar still leads to many many many un-natural linkings.

Which I think opposes google core Idea. An average JOE does not or don't actually know what's that green bar.

I think people tend to spam or put links more on high pr blogs etc. As people think it will benefit them. Most of the people here in webmaster world have sites of very high pr & they don't care about that as they have what it takes to be high on google. Good content, high PR & high no. of good incoming links.

But ask from any webmaster if he is new or have site of pr3 what he wants to have.... & the answer will be links from high pr site even if the content is not that good.

Yes I have seen useless sites with pr5 & pr6.

So all in all if that is all not so important & leads to spam or un-natural linkages then why have it?

I guess that for webmasters on the lazy side it gives some insurance that the link page they target is not totally garbage from GG standpoint. (I am not saying that the statement is true...or not)

You just have to learn not to obsess about it.

And you have to educate your clients into not obsessing about it.

What matters is unique visitors, conversions, and ROI, not a four month old little green bar.

If you plan SEO on the basis of a bar obsession, you'll almost certainly fail.

For almost any use you care to mention, it has no value; the few uses it has are of no interest to the webmaster or their team, as they already know what they are doing, and if they are doing it right.

If it worries you that much, remove it from your browser .... There! Doesn't that feel better already :)

That's y I said y is it there.... it leads only to confusion, spam & other sorts of evil.
