It appears that most of my SEO skills are prior the BD, and I'd like to find out if there are sources out there that can break down exactly what happened in the Big Daddy update... or at least the most current one?
I run a completely white hat site, from top to bottom, but i've been stuck on page three of google for 6 months, and I'm about to throw my hands up in the air.
(does anyone else have these days)
Some of the main topics we've discussed here:
1. Spidering changed -- something like higher signals of quality brings better spidering (and poor signals of quality can mean less or even no spidering?) Also any of the Google spiders can now feed your page to the same cache, so mediabot and googlebot don't BOTH need to visit and use up your bandwidth.
2. Trustrank seems to be more important now -- either more inmportant, or perhaps a new and improved set of seeds has been introduced. Trust also seems to be a stronger factor used in duplicate content filtering.
3. Wider historical monitoring of everything a site does is now made possible: backlinks, whois changes, update frequency and all that good stuff.
4. An attempt to address the continuing problem of canonicalization -- it seems a bit better, but still with mixed results.
5. Improved handling of 301 and 302 redirects, but again, still with some flaws.
6. Some bad "data pushes" generated chaos in the site: query results. Pages rapidly vanishing, reappearing, vanishing again, but no solid explanation has surfaced to day as far as I know.
I know there's more, but that's a start. Here are some references:
