Assuming that your site is fairly new, and might be just still bouncing in and out of the serps...

You do the same as for any other site/page that needs to be boosted. You get pertintent, legit, inbound links, avoid dodgy neighbourhoods, and make sure there's lots of real content. In time, the page will rise, and then others will find it and link to you without you even asking - then, you're on your way to the top few positions.

Pay for a design, get some hosting, do some hard work to promote your unique service or ideas :P

I wondered where I had been going wrong all of these years. I thought it was just a matter of making 250'000 "Unique Content" pages, paying for 10'000 incoming links and cramming my pages full of repeated keywords ... DOH!

just keep working...writing entries, seeking out links etc etc. Chances are you will be working for months with very little in the way of encouragement. That's when most people give up. If you don't give up, you've got a chance.
