Results getting omitted due to previous mention of a keyword

It is preventing me from ranking on the keyword

I've just noticed this and I think it is a big problem.

I had made mention of keywordA on a few pages. The keyword appeared just once on these pages.

When I created a new page that was dedicated to keywordA, and searched google for keywordA MySite, it showed the two pages that made mention of the keyword, but not the page that was directly about the keyword.

mysite.com/dir/keywordA was in the "omitted" results.

mysite.com/dir/PageThatMentionedKeywordA was showing as top result.

I've noticed that I can't seem to rank for these keywords that were mentioned elsewhere.

New pages take time to appear, and there's never a guarantee that google will choose to feature pages in your preferred order.

The key is to ensure your site has good site navigation and a good design - then if people arrive by whatever route, they still find what they want, and - hopefully - buy it.

The more competitive the keyword, the longer it takes for it to get up in the World. I've had keywords rank within days in "virgin lands" and keywords that basically haven't begun delivering yet after years of trying because of the intense competition. Supply and demand all over again.

And don't let the new page success fool you - a page may do well for a while as long as Google considers it to have news value - then it goes down for a while until its trustrank/age gives it value again.

Edit: spelling
