Related?

What is the use of this tool?

When I enter related:www.mysite.com, about 28 entries show up. Some are other sites I own, others really are related in concept to mine but most are not even close to being related either in ownership or content. In fact, one of the "related" sites Google displays is for pubcon.com.

What use could something like this have?

We have thought about this feature from time to time especially when there are a number of sites we own, listed there and that gives us an uneasy feeling. The best we have gathered is the term “related” is not just used in the context of “topic”.

There are many ways sites can be related; IP address, server, linking, ownership and of course by topic. If you really broaden your concept of related, and dig hard enough, generally speaking you will discover that these listed sites are in fact somehow related.
