I did the rounds to check on the state of various data updates. I'd estimate that the "0.5" (not algorithmic changes, but rather responses to various spam/porn complaints + processing reinclusion requests) should go out this weekend sometime or possibly Monday. There should be a binary push this week to improve a corner-case of CJK-related search, and that new binary should have the hooks to turn on the third set of data. Regarding finishing up the second piece of data, there's still two data centers with older data. Those data centers will probably be switched over by Monday. By Monday, 2.5 of the 3.5 things will probably be on.

I could fix that a lot faster. My site is all hand done by me so it needs help on consistancy. Nothing automated so it will take a while.

Yeah, so much for improvements. All our pages dropped another 5-10 positions.
Odd, I'm also seeing some cache pages out of whack. On pages we changed yesterday. I'm seeing some have dropped back to May 29 in the caches, while others are showing Late last night.
Just doing searches on several different topics...
In the top 10 results at least 1 and in some subjects areas 4 of the top ten have nothing to do with the topic searched. Lots of directory type sites with adsense. Not much really good relevant returns.
Oh well...I don't really care anyway, but it seems with all this drama we would have seen some improvement.
As a side note...all the sites listed in the top ten in the various subject areas that are in no way relevant...the cached versions have no on-page keywords, just links pointing to that page with the keyword.
Google gives way too much weight to off-pages factors...that is the crux of their problem.
Both show the same cache date (6/4/05). Both are identical urls. The snippets are dependent on the search term.
I have never noticed snippets being dependent on the search term before...

it's been that way with my site ever since i can remember. For widget's its my meta descrip. in the listing and ranked anywhere from 6 to 12 depending on google's mood or datacenter. for widget (the singular) its a snippet and ranked poorly...maybe on 3rd of 4th page.
Don't understand why...on page keyword distribution is about the same for both plural and singular. also both plural and singular are mentioned in the meta description also.
We might as well just give up on trying to figure out what makes google tick. It's all way above my pay-grade.
my money keyword is a two word phrase ie; blue widgets and the meta description i guess from dmoz. like i said ranked 6 to 12.
throw in any 3rd word like "wholesale blue widgets", discount, fuzzy...anything in the world you can imagine I ranked 1st for all of them. That's great anyway as it brings in more targeted traffic. But it seems like if one dominates when an added adjective is added...logic would assume one would dominate the two word phrase also.
hey...this has nothing to do with bourbon...so I will just drop it, but if you have any theories willy...please sticky me.

GoogleGuy said (possibly in another thread) that some minor changes would occur within the next couple of days, with more substantive changes (I think he used the term "indicators of search quality") being phased in before the Webmaster World search conference in late June.
Site launched in nov 2004 came out of the sandbox during this bourbon update, google traffic has tripled this last week....However I'm noticing that on these dc's below the site is back in the sandbox. Anyone else seeing different results at these dcs?

According to GoogleGuy, the 0.5 part of the update should take place today, if it hasn´t been completed already during the weekend.
With reference to GoogleGuy Bourbon isn´t over yet. Its expected to end around the start date of this conference ;-)

I am really waiting for some people posting that there re-inclusion requests have been succesfull.
GG - indicated that re-inclusion requests would be processed with this 0.5 - when we start seeing some re-inclusion then we can think that 0.5 has been about done (i assume)
Anyone seeing any reinclusion?
I had one site that was affected badly by update Bourbon. For several days Google referrals were restricted to about three keyword combinations. This morning, several others have started appearing in the logs.

On the up side two domains are looking like they are emerging from sandbox - although I have to say that I don't put much hope in this as yet.
If Google comes back, and MSN stays where it's at, they'll make a nice three way horserace with Yahoo!.
Which, when you think about it, is the best outcome overall.

One search I watch has increased from 12,400,000 to 19,400,000 and another from 593,000 to 812,000 results reported. Pretty big jumps! However, there are no changes in the first 10 pages of results. From a quick scan, they look to be identical search results to my normal Google results.
Maybe they are in the process of adding a bunch of new sites which haven't necessarily propogated throughout the results yet. Or maybe ... it means nothing at all and the number of pages reported includes sites which have been dampened or sand boxed. Interesting though!
Anyone taking odds on whether or not this number changes dramatically sometime soon? "Searching 8,058,044,651 web pages" :)
if this is just the 0.5...can't imagine what the 1.0 left will be :). GG had said that by Mon the 0.5 would be finished
Well - he said probably be finished.
(I dont really expect anything to happen until about 10.30pm ish(uk time) - 3pm-4pm Google time.
