With reference to this post [webmasterworld.com...]

MSN's current results are harder & longer to get into if I'm not using the sitematch.

So I'm a bit confused if MSN is using Overture's database & mixing some results with Yahoo's Ink. Then overture will have their own spider & their algo is the same as Ink's?

Hmm, I think you are confused.

Inktomi was bought by Yahoo!
AltaVista and Fast were bought by Overture.
Overture was then bought by Yahoo!

Yahoo! combined Inktomi, AltaVista and Fast all into one technology - called Yahoo! Search Technology. It is a best of breed hybrid of all three technologies.

The paid inclusion program is called Overture Site Match. It replaces the three paid inclusion that were run by Inktomi, AlataVista and Fast but also includes a cost per click component.

Yahoo! Search Technology provides the index for Yahoo!, AlataVista and Fast. Of course the previous distribution partners of Inktomi are now supplied by Yahoo! Search Technology.

Hopefully that clears things up.

Now - Warren is very much an authority on Sitematch, so what he says goes but...

IMHO Yahoo is providing exactly (and no more) what tehy were contracted to do to MSN - which is the Inktomi technology with no frills attached.

In the meantime, the chief engineer at Yahoo is drawn from FAST and he has not been hanging around...

Not that MSN have been hanging around either, but they seem to be concealing their hand.
