The number of pages indexed is a lower bound; various things can cause the reported number to be lower than the actual number. That is, if we say we have 1000 pages from your site, we might have more than that, but we definitely won't have fewer than 1000 pages. Also, the larger the number, the more likely it is to be an underestimate.
There are a variety of reasons why it's expensive to make this number precise. Given that, we had rather estimate on the conservative side.
