Microsoft will introduce a search engine better than Google in six months in the United States and Britain followed by Europe, its European president said on Wednesday.

"What we're saying is that in six months' time we'll be more relevant in the U.S. market place than Google," said Neil Holloway, Microsoft president for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

"The quality of our search and the relevance of our search from a solution perspective to the consumer will be more relevant," he told the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit.

We had a discussion about it here about it when the press release was issued. There was much dismissing of their claim, even by myself.

Well it has been three months about half way to the 6 month claim and I am starting to become a beleiver, many things have happened since then especially in April with BigDaddy and all.

Wondering what your thoughts are on this claim now?

I concur. Let's not forget Microsoft is still yet to launch all of the products that are supposed to be incorporated with these improved searches.

ex. Search Live, Vista etc...

My thoughts are they're tweaking the algos, making sure there are minimal screw ups for post launch.

(Maybe three months back they figured the products would be ready in six months. Will probably be a little longer, won't be sooner. Looking forward to this...)

I am also looking forward to see what they do. What I find somewhat amusing is that fact that without doing anything they might become more relevent just by Google shooting themselves in the foot.

Except that they cannot provide decent results to date, especially of late. Without key relevant results, they will never hold a large share of the market.
