I read in a news today that Microsoft has released its beta Windows Live Search at [live.com...] which would replace MSN some times in Summer. It's quite innovative with a lot of new features consolidated. Its screen fit with your computer. In search, you don't have to go from page 1 to page 2 or 3, but streamline down - so basically you may not need to be at #1 or page 1 like traditional SE to get traffic.

Just one more comment by me on MSN's Live Beta...

The whole idea on design seems to come from a kid that works his new "Flash" software... You know what I mean?

Some of those fancy but totally annoying flash sites because navigation links are so hard to work with.

I just don't get it... Oh I got it.. Found the result in Gooogil.

Trying to search with this thing crashes my browser. Firefox.

Doesn't seem to work with Camino.

It's still 'loading' my query I entered 6 minutes ago.

Thank you Microsoft! I now feel comfortable buying my vacation house this summer as my future with Google is virtually assured at this point ;)

The referer is only the live site address. It doesn't show the search query or keywords. So you don't know what keywords brought the visitor to your site.

This REALLY <insert explicative here>.

BTW: I don't really like it, it's hard to tell where you are. The colors are waaay too bland. Everything kinda looks the same and the thing is slow as molasses

I guess MSFT figures everybody has High Speed Internet these days. HAH! The Estimated 56K download time for the Live homepage is 13 seconds.

Also can report 22 HTML Errors and 28 Browser Compatibility Issues with the Homepage alone.

I don't see this posing a problem for GG or Y! marketshare.

I'll bet that Average Joe is probably going to finally figure how to change the default homepage of IE when this bloatware becomes the default instead of MSN.

I love their initiatives and think that I like it at first glance, but honestly, after playing around a few times - I don't like its scrolling feature...After querying, I was tempted to scroll down and look at a few sites that aren't on top. If I wanted to return to the interested site for a second time with the same query, it is quite difficult to spot where that site is. It's quite inconvenience for the returned visits. That's for me and I think I like more with navigation page style - it could be due to my unbreakable old habit.

Hardly necessary at this point but I'll chime in that I detest the nonstandard scrolling effect as well. Aside from the fact that it's near-impossible to use (in Mozilla; maybe it's optimized for Explorer), every time you scroll anywhere that creates a new URL. So your back arrow rapidly becomes useless.

Sure there's a drop-down so that I can back through multiple pages at once, but probably only a few percent of people know how to use that. Everyone else will become hopelessly mired and give up.

It was so slow and then after all the waiting nothing so I don't know what this is like. I know its only a beta but I won't be back in a hurry and I would suspect many others will feel the same. Saying its a Beta is a double edge sword. It seems they have a long way to go.

My first impression was that I liked it. But I have to agree that there are some little things that maybe confusing for the everyday user. Funny that they are using an inline frame for search results - doesn't that defy the rules? ;-)

I like it, especially the scroll bar. With the quality of results on all search engines, I find myself constantly drilling down into page (and yes, I do know I can have 100 results on one page).

I also like the exanded text option, very helpful. This is similar to the Yahoo Mindset, which I also like. Great concepts. Good job.

Windows Live Search doesn't work in Safari on a Mac - the dropdowns on the home page dont load (all one sees is "loading...") and when i type a search into the search field no results are returned. Works fine in Firefox.

Yahoo Mindset - I had not heard of that. Very cool at first glance.

I found it very nice to look at. I'm just not sure I can get past the frame thingy. My guess is they are presenting a UI for a broader market including cell and wireless. One screen to rule them all.

One screen to rule them all.

And in the darkness bind them. Yep, sounds like MS alright. ;-)

I realy like the new MSN search, also the results are ok, there is one search I made for my own site, im placed no.2 and "3 with a internal page" thats maybe not that good search related, but ok I have not seen it anywhere els until now.

I also like the fact that you dont have to change page every 10 results, but I also think being placed no.1 is not that important then, thats maybe a shame for some.

>>I wanted to get out

It had that effect on me. Going back to Google's old-school, ugly-sells design relieved that anxiety with an "Ahh".

It didn't load for me. I entered a keyword, clicked search... went to fix supper... came back... and it still hasn't loaded.
