I've been living off the cheaper PPC engines for a while now (GoClick is my favourite) and I should really start looking more at free listings.

Here's what I'm aware of:

-I need to optimize content such as tags, keyword density etc. no problem.

-I need incoming links from high ranking sites (or is this mainly just for Google?)

What I'm not sure is, how established does my site have to be? Can it be just a site full of articles I've written?

I think I'm just not sure about why many crappy sites get into the top 10 - is it really THAT easy?Am I missing the point?

:S

At this point I'd say content and good links are the most important things you should be working on, for any search engine, MSN included.
