Hi

Been reading 1 or 2 scare stories about how a listing in the Yahoo directory has caused a drop in Yahoo search ranking.

I know it would probably be fine - just call me ultra cautious!

Anyway, I was just wondered if there was any evidence of a similar effect on MSN ranking, if you submit your site to the bcentral directory?

My site is so important to me that I can't afford to take even a small risk with it.

I can't imagine for a second that you would be penalised in MSN - but don't take my word for it!

Please can you give some references about it?

I have a complete different experience!
I haven't ever been penalized for a Yahoo listing...
Maybe I could increase my knowledge about it.

Funny you should ask this question...

I think bcentral is a great deal. Much more realistic than the $300 charged by Yahoo! for a directory listing.

I signed up for bcentral and was appearing in their directory on June 5th (three days after signing up). MSN has fully indexed my website (even before signing up) and the recent changes in SERPS have been very kind to me. I was actually wondering if the listing helped me (until I saw the algo had been updated).

No fears from my perspective.

I haven't heard any scare stories about the bcentral directory - as I said, I'm just being ultra cautious because of the Yahoo stories I've heard.

For angiolo

Can't point to an example - but if you do a search on Google for something like "yahoo directory listing + serp position" - I'm sure you will come up with a few examples of people posting complaints.

There has been a well documented scare regarding the use of Yahoo/Overture pay for inclusion services affecting your position in Yahoo SERPS - but I'm not talking about that - I'm only referring to paying for a directory listing.

I know you will find many people - most in fact - who will say they have had absolutely no problem - but there ARE people out there reporting their concerns over this issue.

One more thing ....

The submission process using the "submit it" service makes me nervous - I stay along way away from auto submission services.

I just want a simple submission into bcentral - I assume other people have done this too?
