Redirected URL's

Will a redirected URL help ranking?

I'm still trying to figure out the new MSN strategy. It appears as though they are too!

In my opinion (and a lot of other people), they are weighting the URL's with the search keyword in it, much more favorably.

So, if that is true, would registering an additional URL with the keyword in it and redirecting it to my main keyword help?

For example, I sell widgets, but my company name is ABC Company. My url is www.ABCCompany.com. If I also got www.ABCCompanywidgets.com and redirected it, would that possibly help my ranking on the term widgets?

Any help would be appreciated!

I wouldn't run out and buy one...

I rank 1 - 3 (depending on the day of the week) for a single word (12 mil result) fairly competative search that has nothing to do with my URL.

The recognized leader in the other niche I am in, has nothing in his URL relating to the searches he dominates either.
