So... I have a hobby site.

deals with three main unrelated topics that I am interested in.

MSN found me.

I am #1 first page for a keyword that is a combination of a brand name and type. (like ford pickup)

I am #1 second page for a car make and model combination (like ford focus)

I am also 1# first page for another make / model combo.
(ford mustang)

(I don't like ford, it's just an example.)

Since my site is geared toward content, and I have not optimized for keywords, i was suprized to say the least.

These words have results of between 10K and 1M and i jumped to the top that fast? Can I expect it to last (with maintenance, of course), or does msn give higher rank to new sites at first, and it will eventualy fall off?

Not sure what your getting at. I am not used to MSN, I usually watch google mostly.

I was wondering if it was normal for a new site to have such strong rank on MSN, or if simple being new helps for a while.

I have no problem talling my words or url, but thats generaly not done here.

I'd personally wait a month or two before getting too excited. What's here today, can easily be gone tomorrow.

Not meaning to burst your bubble - and the best of luck!

thats my feeling too. with google it seems that if you made it there, you did something right. With MSN, i fell that they just put me there. I'll do what i can to keep it though, thats for sure.

thanks!

Our hits from MSN have dropped lately, even though we show up pretty decent for most keywords. Not sure if it is simply not many using it or what. MSN referrals used to come in around #6 or 7, now they are around #12, with a lot lower overall percentage of totals.

But part of that may be due to some changes we made recently, not sure how long it takes MSN to find new pages, but I don't see much spidering from MSN.

Google's found my site aswell as MSN. Didn't know that would work too. Ask and Lycos don't.

MSN had me #3 on first page for a short single keyword, one often sought after.
That was right out of the gate when MSN's new search finally went live.

Soon I was at bottom of page 1, then somewhere on page 2.
Now, after about a month or so, my site is lost on page 8 or worse.

Y and G have me on 2nd or 3rd page consistently for the same search word
so I don't lost a lot of sleep over MSN. -Larry
