Life’s little pleasures

I have just taken delivery of some artwork printed on large pvc board and when they wobble the "bibblewangbloop" noise is great. Even if it makes you feel like a kid (or Rolf). Got us talking about other small pleasures: there's classic ruler twang on the desk, popping bubble wrap, the feel of clean sheets....

>>I could live without the "car tires on gravel"

Keep in mind that the crunch of car tires on that gravel driveway announces arrivals as well as departures. :)

At my place, friends just pull up and jump on out of their truck. People that don't know us are intimidated by the 7 dogs that run down the driveway. Since the driveway is nearly 200 yards long, they get a long look at the pups while they make up their mind about walking on up to the door.

The full moon on fresh snow, with a sky-wide ring around it for good measure, accompanied by crisp ice-crystal crunch under foot.... and the bite at the back of your throat because the air is so cold and so clean....

And the bite at the back of your throat that comes with a sip of any good sippin' whisky - Wild Turkey 101 comes to mind immediately.... or a wonderful peaty scotch....

The gurgle of early runoff in the creek - UNDER the ice, but you still can hear it, know it's there, know spring is just around the corner (I'm not a "spring" person, but that still gives me a thrill....)

Midnight in the deep country, away from lights - where the whole of the galaxy is spread across the sky like a swath of diamonds, so deep so far so bright so clear it takes your breath and never gives it back. We are not alone. Not EVER, when we can see the purity of the universe.

The shussshhhh and shwwwooooshhhhh of the tide on any beach in the world, and watching the water clear the slate....

The sound of silence at 4am after you've just spent two hours walking your baby girl around the house while she's crying and she finally falls asleep.

what about the feeling you get under a srtong/powerful shower - I could stay under there for hours (if the hot water wasn't running out :-))

Are you able to post from there? XD

my favourite pleasure:
Viewing a sunrise from Cabrera's (Spain) beach... after a whole nigth of insane diversion XD... I won't give more details because I'd violate the TOS ;).
But I really know why is this satisfying: I'm with my friends, on holdays, in a place that we like and doing all what we want to do. There is something better?

Greetings

The fragrance which fills your nose the minute you open a fresh container of premium coffee....

[I ADORE coffee - black, and leaded mind! - but even the best brew can't come close to tasting the way a freshly opened can or bag smells....]

bookshops - one of my favorites. (even boxes of books packed away have that smell)

coffee - especially fresh out of the grinder...

Tucking your 2 year old into bed, and being the recipient of a smacking kiss and a very original rendition of 'Twinkle Twinkle Little Star' ---ok, on that one I know why

and the simple act of holding the man you love close - and being held, of course....

Ah, but the title of the thread is: It’s truly satisfying but you don’t really know why. If you don't know why that feels good, well... ;-)

digitalghost:

Yep. Taking all the rough and worn leather and making it supple again. And saddle soap smells great.

And watching your stepfather have a purple-faced screaming fit, because civilized people just don't do that in the living room... or wait, maybe that's just me... lol

The feel of smooth-sanded wood before it is stained.

YAY!

And yes on the coffee and old books smells as well. Ahhh... to have a combination library/tack room, with an espresso machine in the corner. I might never make it back to the computer again.

More:

Standing outside feeling your face go numb while you watch the northern lights during the winter, and hanging around the backyard firepit during the summer, watching the sunrise/sunset show between midnight and 2am.

Seeing a moose cow and calf taking a nap in the backyard.

The smell of good homemade beef stew in the pressure cooker.

The smell of wort (pre-fermented beer) boiling before being cooled to put in the fermenter.

The fact that some people whom I've never met and maybe never will ..share most of the the same "whats reals" as me ,"V" , "digitalghost " , "mivox" , "bun'"...thats reassuring and gives hope ..and I do know why ..but hopefully we've left that "caveat" behind in this thread ...

mivox - well, yes, I know that's what this thread started out saying, but seems to me we went beyond that....

Into what makes life priceless for us humans, and worth living.... and maybe other things to others....
