I read and hear persons who obviously have a college degree who use the term "it begs the question" in such a manner to mean that "it raises the question". When I learned the term, it meant something else entirely.

How do you use it? If you don't use it, what do understand it to mean?

Shouldn't that be..."don't know nuffink?"

Someone from Lancashire saying "nuffink"? The mind boggles (unless he was extracting the urine).

>>not biting

;) That's why I love these types of discussions. The good Marquis was French, yes. But the title has Germanic roots. Good thing he was a Marquis huh? Comte de Sade doesn't have the same ring to it, no matter how you pronounce "Marquis".

Me? Rarely. ;)

I was debating the meaning of "nephesh" with a mathematician. He doesn't accept my "anima" argument. Ahh well. Back to etymology class...

While we're on the subject ( well.... someone was about a day ago ; ) of misuses of words ..can someone with mod status ...( look no further than those with tastes in literature as eclectic as the output of hugh hefner and burkes peerage ) ...slide over here [webmasterworld.com...]

Where is the point of all of these "geeky" spell checker doodads and grammatical whossits built into browsers if no ever uses the 'n things ....is that encouraging for the poor souls at mozilla 'n opera (not to mention head geek at "Have we got code for you ..hey have we got code for you ..." at Bills ...

It's 2 a.m. in the UK and I'm off to bed. Think I'll dig out the old Markwis's La Philosophie dans le boudoir for a little bedtime read...
