first real evidence of extraterrestrial life?

Looks like seti has made good progress, got an email from them :

On March 18-20 2003 we travel to the Arecibo radio telescope
to re-observe the most promising "candidates" produced by our search so far.
There is a chance that these new observations will yield
the first real evidence of extraterrestrial life.

I think the SETI @ home project is kind of silly, sacrificing fossil fuels (namely computers left on in workplaces after hours) to tackle this. Why not have a little patience and wait until our grandchildren's grandchildren can turn Pluto into a 360 degree antenna that runs on solar. ;)

i am very internested in things like this.space(universe ) and everything connected with it amazes me. i love space epxploratiosn etc..

but about seti..hm..how do you know that this program you run in computer idle time is not part of echelon network? it wasnt in the past but now? isnt seti moslty goverment sponsored?(i dont know,i am asking) i would not trust goverment sponosored organisations to install softwares on my computer ;)

dont get me wrong.. i like that too..but i would suggest to do this in medical research..i heard,cant confimr,that there is similar project but it is for researching cancer..that would be cool to fidn the cure:)

yes i did have the cancer program (i had a quick search and their software is at [grid.org...]

but when i used it, about 1 year back i had trouble with the software so went back to seti and also the mersenne project (finding the largest prime number)

I totally believe there HAS to be other life out there, whether they've been here already, who knows, will I ever see it with my own eyes, I hope so.
