Looks like seti has made good progress, got an email from them :

On March 18-20 2003 we travel to the Arecibo radio telescope
to re-observe the most promising "candidates" produced by our search so far.
There is a chance that these new observations will yield
the first real evidence of extraterrestrial life.
Thanks for being part of this history-making effort!

The old problem, that most people tend to forget: If there are two possible answers to a question, which answer should then have the benefit of the doubt? And which answer should wear the burden of the proof?

To me personally it seems quite natural that the whole world is alive and intelligent. I should certainly like to see someone prove me wrong! ;)

But perhaps Big Dave was right when he told another member that they seemed to be living in two different worlds. The world that I live in is very much larger and richer and safer and has much more beauty and fairness and meaning than the world that I see some members writing about. And it's very very real. I've tested it hard for many years.

> cancer

Cancer is not the problem. AIDS or ebola or you-name-it are not the problem. Problem is people-who-get-cancer-or-another-serious-disease. I ought to know. I have had one disease (allergy) for my whole life and never really got around to ridding myself of it though I do not doubt that I could. And some years ago I was heading straight for my death of another disease, possibly cancer. Not quite sure why I turned around, but I did.

I suspect that WW was one of the reasons for my staying alive though it didn't exist at the time. To me at least my membership looks like some kind of fulfilment. (As you see I don't believe in causality as a governing principle. :) )

Remember: Even the largest and fastest computer is just a not very bright calculator. It will not bring you any knowledge or wisdom that you could not gain without it. You are experiencing the miracle of computers right now: The Internet. People getting together in realtime from all over the globe and exchanging thoughts and opinions.

<---- back to lurking status, then turning my computer down and going out to meet that miraculous living force: the sun ---->
