I unexpectedly had to come east to D.C. An old friend is gravely ill. Not only that, I'm snowed in. 25 inches here in Bethesda Md. My rental car is buried.

Now I remember why I live in California.

Snowing like mad here (MA). A regular Nor'easter. What a winter!

I wish we had that kind of snow here. I had to go golfing over the weekend rather than skiing.

We had 3-4 inches over the weekend and a nice 1 inch of rain before that.

Yeah, she was a good one. We had 3 or more inches of rain and sustained winds around 35mph (gusts 45) for more than a full day out of that Nor'easter. You guys are welcome to the snow.

I am loving this no snow deal. Its great you can go out for walks and not have to get soaking wet, cold, and all around misreable. I hope to have many more winters just like this one.

This winter is approaching the ones I left behind in Rochester, NY - there I suffered through 450 inches of snow and ten straight days with HIGH temps that were below zero degrees Farenheit. No thanks.

The nice thing about this particular 2-foot blizzard here in New England is that the temperature has warmed up 20 degrees. It's still below freezing, mind you, but now it's at least tolerable.

I was going to go take pictures of the waves swamping the four lane that runs along the shore nearby. I stepped out and it was like being blasted by bits of broken glass! Didn't get far.

Virginia Tech actually cancelled classes due to the snow. Nobody I've ever talked to can remember the last time that happened.

OK. You can all give our weather back now. Last week everything shut down for two days because it started raining (in the middle of February!), and the roads turned to solid sheets of ice...

This is what my deck looked like when I woke up this morning. I tried to open the slider to get a better shot, but I couldn't get it open. Probably a good thing; I wouldn't want the 2 feet of snow that fell yesterday/last night to all come into the living room.

Yeah - I'm all for that. That snow should have come up here to Vermont. 24" of fresh powder would be welome!

I'm sorry! I'm sorry! Would you like me to post the picture of my miniature Indian Corn growing on the side of my house this summer, to make you feel better?

Should we send skates?

(We could include hockey sticks and pucks too!)

Oh no... we got a few inches of snow after the ice... The nice fluffy snow provided just enough traction for us "bare tire" drivers to get around, while the chain-wearers chewed up the ice underneath. :)

Everything's fine now, we just don't have enough snow. They're cancelling dog mushing and snowmobile races right and left. There are sections of major rivers that aren't frozen over! It's chaos. hehe.

Ice, hmmmmmm, isn't that the stuff that goes into Gin'n Tonics! We could send drinkers ;) Your ice problem would be gone in daze .....

Just a little hyperbole there, Tedster?

Yes, it's a snowy city (I grew up shoveling walks not far from there), but a little bit in its defense. . .

The average annual snowfall in Rochester, over the past 75 years, is about 100 inches.
The annual snowfall record for 1884 to the present (set in 1959-60) is 161.7 inches.

And, one thing you can't deny, is that the area is better equipped to handle it than the coast (e.g., it takes a lot more to close the schools!)

450 inches?! I think you'd only get that in a few ski resorts in the Rockies and Northwest.

Sorry... horticultural talents only make me jealous. :) The only plant I've kept alive since I got my house is a little rhubarb plant... and I completely ignore it for the most part. ;)

it takes a lot more to close the schools!

heehee... Schools here closed for the rain last week, and I hear things start closing when it gets below -40degF, but that's about it.

Rest assured, I've jotted down a note to myself never to mention the minature Indian corn was taller than I am.....

Yup, back sore from shoveling.

Yeah - I'm all for that. That snow should have come up here to Vermont. 24" of fresh powder would be welome!

lorax: I was up there last weekend. My family has a camp in Washington/Chelsea. We got pizza at Village Pizza at City Center in Montpeilier. -15 degrees at the camp (75 inside with woodstove full on).

Was nice to get away from web, phone, for a few days, even if it was wicked chill in VT.
