Speaking of tea, could any of you fine folk east of the Pond reccomend good web sites from which to order tea? I only really know of two, one in Chelsea and one in Colombo, Sri Lanka - and the latter has only a marginaly functional and incomplete catalog online. (Last time I ordered tea from them it took four months to get here because they only accepted wire transfer or check, and I wasn't about to pay the bank $40 to transfer $35. I wouldn't have known what to order if an ex hadn't given me some of their stuff that had been purchased on a visit to Sri Lanka. But it was excellent tea.)To avoid URL dropping, the ones I know about are on my bookmarks page, which is one click away from the page in my profile.
Oh, and an important critereon is that the sites must not have a separate section for US users where they sell bitter **** that's no better than you get off the grocery store shelves over here. I know of at least one company off the top of my head that does that, and recall finding a few others that seemed to last time I went looking.

Everything I've mentioned so far is Sri Lankan ("Ceylon" - former name of the place) tea, and it does tend to be a theme in my own purchases. There is also certainly good tea to be had from Kenya (anyone know region names? I've only had it labeled "Kenyan" and either BOP or COP) and India (Assam is a popular one, and of course Darjeeling - very light, delicately flavored, and expensive. Don't be fooled by stuff labeled Darjeeling in most grocery stores. My rule of thumb is that if they can't tell you what estate the putative Darjeeling was grown on and which flush it is, it's no good.). Oddly enough, I'm really not familliar with Chinese teas.
I assume I can order the teas you mention State-side from some importer. I also assume loose tea is better flavor-wise - though Twinings has served me well with their Earl Grey in a bag.

I know of a store in Boston where you can walk in and buy it. Or at least, I did that once, and it was in Boston. No promises about being able to find the store again. (It was a very stressful visit, and I wasn't driving on that trip.) I generally mail order it from one of the two sources on that bookmarks page I mentioned. I'm looking for other sources to expand my options a bit, but I have no problem with the quality of those two.
As for loose versus bagged, there is some slight flavor difference, but much less so with good quality bags. My primary reason for buying loose is that it's cheaper.
Twinings is indeed about as good as one can generally find in a grocery store over here. Unfortunately, they are also one of the brands that irks me by having a separate site for their US products and refusing to ship the others to the US. I've bought Twinings tins both overseas and in the US, and got better tea buying it overseas. Besides, even after shipping it costs me slightly less to order tea from England than it does to go down to the grocery store and buy a tin of Twinings.

The best store bought Earl Grey I've found is Celestial Seasonings, from the same bunch who make all the crappy flavored "herbal teas". puts Twinnings to shame IMHO.
Just milk for me and I'll take a few marks & sparks digestives to go with my rich teas.
