Problem parsing .htm as php

Hello,

I want to parse some .htm files in a subdirectory as php.
To do this I made a .htaccess with online the line:

AddType application/x-httpd-php .htm

in it and uploaded it to the directory with the files I want to parse as php in.
If I now open one of the files it does not parse the file as php instead a window opens telling me a Download-Window opens asking me if I want to save the file on my HDD or if I want to open it with some application.

I got this thing to work some weeks ago but by incident I deleted the .htaccess and with the new one it doesn't work.

I hope someone can help me here!

thanks for your help.

Unfortunately your solution doesn't work.
Now nothing happens at all, the .htm file open without being parsed at all. So the "download"-Window doesn't appear anymore but the file opens unparsed.

There must be a possibility to get this working.
I just redesigned our site. During the initial test phase I managed to get this stuff working but when I uploaded the new version of our site yesterday I unfortunately deleted teh .htaccess that worked and now I don't find the correct way anymore.
What I still remember ist that I only had one line in the working .htaccess... and it looked very similar to the one in my original post and to the one proposed by you...but there must a little difference...

I hope some of you hear will find this little difference because getting this to work is one essential part of our redesign...

there is one thing I should add:
If I use the line from my originally post not only opening of .htm files results in the opening of a download window....also opening of .php-files lets this download-window appear...

Well, the snippet I provided is exactly right to do what you want, so the problem lies elsewhere. What do you mean by saying the file opens unparsed. Do you mean you get a screen full of HTML rather than a webpage?

With unparsed I mean:
I get a Webpage, not just plain html but the php function included in the site does not work.

Is it possible the new file have a different extension, "html" instead of "htm"? That's the only thing I can think of.

the extension is .htm.
Would it be possible that I send you a PM with more details (which I'm not allowed to post on the board) and maybe also the access information to our server that you could just take a look at it? Maybe that shows everythiung clearer and easier to find a solution!

Sorry, No. It's a sunny Saturday afternoon and I'm heading for the garden. You'll probably get more response on Monday when the Apache experts get into work and come on the forum. The AddHandler line is right so the problem lies elsewhere, maybe in another .htaccess file somewhere or in the server configureation file. Do some simple tests on a test server if you have one.

I did not intend to aks you to do this at once: My request was just in general. So if it would be possible someday next week or so would be ok, too, there is no need to hurry.
If somebody tries to help me of course the helping person can choose the time!

I am having this problem as well. A site I have on a different server uses the exact same code and works but this one does not work. Stupid .htaccess...
