I am using earthlink hosting in my website and I was told i can only use php if all my files have .php4 extension, as expected they were not very helpful.

I need to know if I need to do anything special for my default index to be index.php4, I already tried it in a random folder like mysite.com/new/ and I thought it would automatically load index.php4 it did not work, what can I do?

If the hosting servers support user .htaccess you could set your own index files:

DirectoryIndex index.php4
