Linux or WINDOWs for php hosting company

Which would you say is preferable either linux or Windows as a better platform for installing php and mysql.

Generally the preferred standard is LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySql, PHP) however Windows servers seem to offer similar performance and stability

But Linux (LAMP) is free and for Microsoft solution you have to pay big, and with cost you don't get better product.
Moreover in EU all government software is run on Linux.
That's my view - use linux

It I was a host I would definatly run Linux, the Windows license for hosting co's can be quite an investment.

LAMP would be my choice.
