A question a bit on the side

I have a question that's only remotely on topic... Sorry. But I use mysql from windows, and the PC speaker *PIP* that the mysql prompt is playing upon errors is killing me. Does anyone know how I can turn it off?

Do you have a sound card? If so unplug the PC speaker. No one hardly uses them anymore anyway except to hear the POST beep on startup.

LOL. I remember when I first setup my new laptop I ran into the same issue. I wasn't sure what was controlling the level of that horrendous *BEEP* that about scared me into a heart attack each time I entered a syntax error. I finally discovered it was adjusted via the advanced volume control.

Double-click the volume icon in the Windows system tray in your taskbar. There is a setting in there named "PC Speaker". Whatever you do, don't turn it up and give yourself a MySQL syntax error to test and see if that is it. I did that and the volume level was so high, it literally shut off the pc, IMMEDIATELY, WITHOUT WARNING! Turn it down as close to low as you can and then give yourself a MySQL syntax error from the command line. You can keep moving the slider bar down until it is at a bearable volume level.

Hmm. I tried it but that infernal sound is still there. I even tried to mute all sound, but still MySQL excercise no mercy. Please help me! :)

Huh. Works on mine, just tested it. Make sure you are double-clicking the volume control and once it is open you choose the "Options > Advanced Controls" so you can see the "PC Speaker" option. You can Mute that if you like, too.

Yup, that's what I did. I muted the pc-speaker thing. When that didn't work I tried to mute everything, and it's still beeping my mind out :¦
