I recently downloaded a free oepn source ecommerce package from www.oscommerce.com. what's the word on oscommerce? also, please recommend a better, free php open source ecommerce package!

A look around the forums will reveal that you've made a good choice. As to whether it is suitable for your specific needs... only you can say for sure.

For many oscommerce is the best free open source shopping cart system. Do a search on Hotscripts.com and you will find others.

My personal favorite is Zencart (www.zen-cart.com). Although I haven't tried oscommerce (Had trouble getting it started.)

Zen Cart is just a clone of oscommerce. It is very similar.

Personally, I found Zen-Cart easier to use than OsCommerce as it has many of the more useful hacks available inside the package.
