hey everyone,
I am looking for a way to find the closest location(s) to a postcode supplied by a user. I'm not just looking for the closest numerically - but the closest geographically. Specifically I am looking for a solution that works with Australian postcodes.

I have been searching online but not managed to find a database of postcode locations calculations- or a way of calculating distance between these - and was hoping that someone might have some experience in this area or pointers to where I should look for further information.

Thanks a lot!

I'd probably start with Australia Post, they used to release a booklet periodically and I think that it's now online (try googling Australia Post)... whether that will be enough I don't know.

I don't know of any code available freely to download, but if you can find a source of postcodes and their approx lat+long you can use a bit of math to calculate the distance as the crow flies.

I`m sure there is some kind of online lookup for Aussie post codes, but I can`t remember the URL. Have you tried Google?

Australia Post have the post codes online here - [www1.auspost.com.au...] - where you can also download the latest file. They don't have geographical congruity though. There is someone who has a congruous database available for purchase, but I can't find them at the moment.

just look up the postcode at whitepages (whitepages.com.au), and look it up on a map

EASY!
