Ok, so i bought 'SAMS Teach Yourself PHP,Mysql and Apache All in one" It seems great. I put the cd provided in the cd tray and then i followed the steps to installing mysql. it all seemed to work until i had to run winmysqladmin.exe. When i do, i'm supposed to get a stop light with the green light on. Well, i get the stop light, but it's a red light. I right clicked, went to Win NT, then to Start MySQL Service, then i get an error...like, #*$!? i didn't even have a chance to mess up.

The apache and php both work perfect, no problem at all. Just mysql is f'ed up.

Im running Windows XP home edition, trying to install MysSQL

ok, so i got it to work....but not fully....i don't really know if mysql is working cause i don't have a way to find out as winmysqladmin does not come with mysql4.1

anyway, php is working when i make a phpinfo.php file. but when i run any of my files, it doesn't show the source, but it just shows a blank screen for everything.

MajdAA, you should ask an admin to move this to the "Apache Web Server" topic. You'll get a lot more help there....

And I still think you're better off with xampp.

I suggest you to use server OS: Win 2000 PE/SE or Win 2003 SE/EE. Also use PHPMyAdmin for administering your database.

If you are using Win XP HE/PE, you may try to go command prompt and login into 'mysql' from there.

Cheer up ;)

Where are you at now MajdAA?

I have 2 fun threads for you

Troubleshooting Steps for PHP/Apache on windows [webmasterworld.com]

Apache2, PHP5, MySQL4 and PHPmyAdmin [webmasterworld.com]

one of those 2 might give you a hint as to where you are going wrong.
