Combining PHP/MySQL with DHTML to create a menu

I want a DHTML menu that gets each link from a MySQL database. There are a few scripts available on line but they all seemed far too complicated to set up.

Can anyone recommend a simple script that creates a text-based collapsing tree menu using links stored in a MySQL database?

i think you should tell a bit more what kind of "menu" you would like to have. one on the left/right side or one on top or even a tree?

It's a menu on the left, four categories with about five links in each. I'd like them to branch out in a tree, but something simple and text based.
