I am interested in designing a PAY directory/link type of site for a specific market. I was wondering if there was a script out there that would allow a customer to come to my site, pay for the type of link they would want to add to the directory, pay for the link service and have the link automatically added to the database (under parameters specified by location etc)

For example...say it is a SEARCH FOR DOCTOR IN YOUR AREA type of site and the local doctors want to add their link to the directory...is there an automated script that would allow them to add AFTER paying, as well as using the parameters to put their link into a specific location..like NEW YORK, or NEW JERSEY?

any thoughts on how I should proceed?

Thanks all.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld jimi71,

I would think that a standard user management system may work for allowing people who have signed up (paid) with you to manage their listing or pay more for more listings or what have you.

You could have a signup form that allows them to enter their listing and you just need to incorporate a payment gateway with this.

You would then need the code to display all of the listings on the front end as well.

I don't know if everything you are looking for is available as a whole but with some time in from you a few pieces could be meshed together to accomplish what you need.

<added>and yes you can probably get the scripts for free, the only investment would be your time to get them all working together.

Indeed, quite a bit for a single script. I've built a front end management system for directory links, and it keeps my directory pages nice and neat. Under the hood there are dynamic pages and data tables. Adding a payment option shouldn't be that difficult. I spent about 2 weeks writing mine from scratch, and the interface is definitely rough around the edges - not something that I would promote to the public.

If you have any coding experience it might be easiest to pick your pieces, make what you have to, and roll your own. If you don't have much coding experience, you'll have a chore picking the pieces, making what you have to, and building your own - but it can be done.

Thank you for the replies

CASPITA-->>Would I like a script for free? Of course who wouldnt...:)

GRANDPA--->I have the structure of the script in mind but would need to work on my coding. Like you said, maybe its a good idea to just do it from scratch (I've tried in the past to meld together pieces here and there and ended up just putting together my own in the end out of frustration)

JATAR_K--->Thank you for welcoming me to the forum. And thank you for the starting point...

I will let thisforum know how I progress...but dont think you all wont here from me in the mean time for a little more advice :)

Peace.
