Working with mediaWiki

Hi,
i want to make a site to create a public built dictionary of English phrases, idioms etc., from around the world using mediaWiki, as i have heard that MediaWiki has most of the required functions.

I have set up mediaWiki on my local end but am not able to make out how should i work on it. Neither did i find any online tutorial for working on mediaWiki.

I have not worked on mediaWike before so can someone help me on this?

well, I have never used it either. What do they offer? How do you 'use' it?

Is it some type of feed that you use or is it some type of searchable resource?

A little more info would probably help people out. Have you found any docs from them talking about what is available?
