I need a good php mysql handbook for a newbie. Something from the basics to the you'll-get-in-trouble phase. Anyone have a recommendation?

Have you had a look in our PHP Forum Library [webmasterworld.com]? There are some great resources to be found there.

Royal, see especially the Library item #2 - resources for learning PHP.

I found having something on paper to really help php sticking to my brain. Even though this book wasn't really, in retrospect, so good. It's the paper that does it.

One that I've seen bits of that I like, though I don't have it in paper, is the O'Reilly PHP book authored by Rasmus Lehrdorf. That guy really knows a thing or two about PHP. And he's not bad at explaining things either.

I also need the "paper" version. I like to sit in a comfy chair and read quietly. It helps me learn, and I tend to have a harder time absorbing new stuff from a PC screen, though it's handy for those reminders and hints.

I don't know if you are kidding or not, mincklerstraat, but Rasmus wrote PHP [php.net] ;)

royalelephant, you can find information regarding "paper versions" in the Library reference I showed earlier, particularly the thread on Learning PHP - Books, Tutorials and Online Resources [webmasterworld.com].
