echo http_referer

how do I echo the http_referer?
<? echo ("HTTP_REFERER");?>

does not work, I tried other ways none seem to work.

This way will work:

echo $_SERVER['HTTP_REFERER'];

HTTP_REFERER (which I think is actually $HTTP_REFERER) cannot be accessed unless globals are turned on (which is a very bad thing).

$referer = getenv("HTTP_REFERER");

echo $referer;
