Why would it be that if i enter an incorrect URL ending in .php, my custom 404 error page will not show up? if i add an 'x' (or whatever) to the end of the URL, it will show my 404 page... anything shows it but any URL ending in .php. Is that not bizarre? Is there a good reason for this?

I had the same problem and my web hosting company said "that's just the way it's setup".

When I was with a previous web hosting company the custom 404s worked fine.

In other words it depends on how "things" are configured.

Ask your hosting company about it or, if your doing it yourself, have a chat with people in the forum best suited to your environment (eg. apache etc).
