Dynamic Self Updating Script in PHP & MySQL

Fist I want to thank everyone for all the help I have received in this forum. It is much appreciated.

So here is what I want to do....look at [google.com ]. You will notice that as you type into the form field that a drop down list appears and updates itself.

First, what are the correct terms for this. I tried to look-up this action, but could not find anything.

Second, can it be done in PHP from a MySQL database? Could someone kindly point the way?

Thanks, looking at that script makes my head spin. If I have to tackle javascript for this I will, however I would prefer to do this in PHP. Can it be done?
