Well, whereever your files are, you need to login to your mysql database, and I don't see why you can do that. When you connect to the mysql, anyway you are going to mention the servername, username and password, so that won't be a problem.

I have used an external MySQL host in the past and found that page load times were noticeably slower due to the website host having to connect to another server to query the database.

Yes. But I suppose it depends on who supplies the MySQL hosting. I wasn't paying very much (something like £14 per year) and so that could explain the slow load times. In the end I opted to carry on using my web host's database, which produced pretty much instant load times.

Thanks for the responses. What would be the benefits of asking such request, you may or may not wonder. I am hoping that I could use host a for it's space but want the confort of having a control panel for easier access to files. it may be simplier to use one place with everything, but I've already paid a year for host a without researching my needs first. You know one of those promise you the world type of host.

I have also tried this setup in the past. Performance was terrible. Luckily it was only temporary until I got a decent RPC setup between the hosts.

Within the same LAN you won't have a problem, but over the Internet, the latency adds up.
