an 1251 Error when trying to connect MySQL from dreamweaver

I get this error when trying to access MySQL "1251 Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading mysql client. Now, i have installed MySQL 5.0. Any help is considerebly appreciated. Thank you very much!

Is this an previous working installation which as stopped or a new install which has never worked?
When you updated to 5 was this just the server or the client software as well?

Frank_Rizzo, this is a new installation. I installed on mac os x tiger. Everything seemed to work fine until I tried to connect to the database through dreamweaver but i get the error. I created the tables and everything seemed to be fine. any clue?

All I can find is that the server and client versions mis-matched or you have incorrect password possibly.

I checked the password to see if it was correct it seemed to be but I'm going to try changing the password.
