Display something once without needing users to register

Hi

I've not had much luck with this so far - I'm trying to get a form to display only the first time someone visits a page, without requiring them to register their details in a database.

I wondered if PHP sessions could help?

Any suggestions or links to examples would be most appreciated.

Why not set a cookie when they arrive for the first time?
